Version 2.2 of Zenless Zone Zero, titled “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” rolled out on September 4, 2025, bringing a hefty slice of fresh content for Proxies. The update is more than just a patch — it introduces two S-Rank Agents, a new main story chapter, a flurry of limited-time events, and a long list of quality-of-life adjustments. Let’s be honest, there is a lot to dig into.

Compensation and Update Details
The development team has prepared two batches of Polychrome for eligible Proxies. The server update compensation grants Polychrome ×300, while the issue fix compensation adds another Polychrome ×300. To claim either reward, players must have reached Inter-Knot Lv. 4 before 2025/09/04 06:00 (UTC+8). The server update compensation can be claimed until the end of Version 2.2, which runs for 41 days and ends on 2025/10/15 06:00:00 (UTC+8). The issue fix compensation, however, must be claimed before 2025/10/04 23:59 (UTC+8). Both arrive via in-game mail after the update, and the mail expires after 30 days, so claim those attachments before they vanish.
Update methods vary by platform. PC players can exit, restart, and select update. Android users follow the in-game pop-up instructions. iOS players head to the App Store. PS5™ and PS5™ Pro owners highlight the game on the home screen, hold down the Options button, and check for updates. Xbox users can find the update under My games & apps > Manage > Updates.
New Agents, W-Engines, and Bangboo
Two S-Rank Attack Agents headline the update. Seed, an Electric-type DPS, deals massive Electric DMG and can team up with other Attack specialty Agents to form a new dual-Attack team that suppresses enemies with overwhelming firepower. Then there’s Orphie & Magus, an Agent duo that combines solid offensive capabilities with support abilities. In combat, they trigger Aftershock attacks, dealing Fire DMG while other on-field Agents are attacking. When Orphie & Magus land certain skills on enemies, all squad members gain the Zeroed In effect, which increases their ATK and allows their Aftershock DMG to ignore a portion of enemy DEF. That’s a serious payoff for coordinated play.
For gear, the S-Rank W-Engine Cordis Germina can be obtained through the “Dissonant Sonata” Signal Search, while Bellicose Blaze comes from the “Dazzling Choir” Signal Search. The S-Rank Bangboo Mercury is available through the “An Outstanding Partner” Signal Search, and the A-Rank Bangboo Excaliboo can be earned during the “Band of Brave Bangboo” event.
Main Story and Agent Stories
The main story continues with Season 2 Chapter 3, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.” The chapter is permanently available after the Version 2.2 update, and players must complete Season 2 Chapter 2 “The Impending Crash of Waves” to access it. Those who want a head start can use the Advance Screening function after unlocking Notorious Hunt in Season 1 Chapter 2 - Intermission.
Seed’s Agent Story, “Flora of the Blooming Valley,” is also permanently available, but it requires completing the new chapter first. Again, Advance Screening can be used to experience it early. New Agent Trust Events and Quality Time Events have been added for Orphie & Magus and Seed, with requirements tied to obtaining the corresponding Agents and completing the required Stories.

System Optimizations and Gameplay Additions
Hang tight, because the patch notes are stacked. The update adds a W-Engine recommendation feature to the Agent - Equipment interface, a hide function for unowned Agents, and a Quick Config function for Deadly Assault. The new “Iron Law and Outlaws” challenge in Routine Cleanup introduces two new Drive Disc sets: Dawn’s Bloom and Moonlight Lullaby.
New enemies join the fray, including Miasmic - Terror Raptor, The Defiler, Miasma Walker - Guard Jaeger, and Miasma Walker - Grenadier Jaeger. Additional Achievements and titles have been added, with some hidden achievements tied to Phaethon’s Story, Agent Story, Agent Trust, Inter-Knot Hot Topic, Waifei Peninsula, Throne Quarter, and Hostile Targets. Event titles from “Problem Soldier Boot Camp” are limited-time only.
The Sunny Waves outfit set arrives in Store - Today’s Outfit, granting Wise: Peaceful Waves and Belle: Summer Skies. Quality-of-life improvements include a mission area function on the map for search-range hints, a Proxy switching function for Quality Time Invites and modes, and controller vibration for map teleportation. The Display Stand’s item display limit has been increased to 20, and Agent Soldier 11’s Partner Archive has been updated.
PC players will also notice graphics adjustments. For medium and low Image Quality presets, the corresponding special effects performance has been reduced to improve frame rates.

Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault Rotations
The Critical Node buffs in Shiyu Defense have been refreshed for Version 2.2. Phase I boosts Electric DMG and Physical DMG by 30%, plus Attribute Anomaly DMG by 30%, and grants ATK increases based on the number of Attack specialty Agents in the squad. Phase II lets Agents ignore a portion of DMG RES when hitting enemies and increases CRIT DMG by 60% for 10 seconds when landing Aftershock hits. Phase III increases Electric DMG and Fire DMG by 15%, raises Sheer DMG by 20%, and grants Attack and Rupture specialty Agents 80% CRIT DMG for 15 seconds when Aftershock or Ultimate hits an enemy.
Deadly Assault’s enemy lineup has also rotated. Phase I features The Defiler, Miasmic Fiend - Unfathomable, and Miasma Priest. Phase II pits players against The Defiler, Notorious - Dead End Butcher, and Notorious - Pompey. Phase III brings Miasmic Fiend - Unfathomable, Unknown Corruption Complex, and Miasma Priest.
Bug Fixes and Character Adjustments
The update addresses a wide range of issues. Agent Ju Fufu’s Chain Attack: Suppressing Tiger Cauldron could previously cause her to take damage while not being the active character, and some of her voice lines played abnormally. Agent Yuzuha’s tanuki companion Kama had model abnormalities in certain camera angles, and her Basic Attack: Tanuki Cloak could behave abnormally when parrying certain enemy attacks. Agent Billy’s movement direction occasionally mismatched his roll direction, Agent Lighter couldn’t immediately use his Ultimate after a dodge, and Agent Yixuan had an abnormal hit box in the Light as Air state. Her EX Special Attack description was also corrected from Energy cost to Adrenaline cost, purely a text change.
Agent Astra Yao’s Attack Range now properly increases when holding and charging Basic Attack during the third hit of “Capriccio.” The enemy Thracian had abnormal combat behavior that has been fixed. Event-specific issues in “Tales of Midsummer Dreams” related to joystick sensitivity, aiming sensitivity, and voice lines not matching text were also resolved. Various text typos, visual issues, elevator malfunctions, and Hollow Zero card descriptions received fixes. Voice lines for English, Japanese, and Korean were optimized.
As Version 2.2 settles in, Proxies have plenty of reasons to log back in. The new dual-Attack setups and Aftershock mechanics might just shake up team building — but that’s a conversation for another day.
